Foundry Mews

Sector

Residential, Work

This site, tucked behind the traditional range of shop buildings fronting Barnes High Street was formerly the home of an MOT and car body repair workshop. Sad and dilapidated, the existing buildings were fit only for demolition and consequently had been the subject of a large number of redevelopment proposals over the years, none of which had succeeded in gaining planning consent.

Our proposals for this sensitive site are a continuation of our commitment to high quality design that is both contextual and innovative and which creates desirable and nourishing environments for living and working. The model is the artisan mews where workspace and living space combine in an intimate courtyard setting in buildings whose simple forms are reminiscent of small-scale workshops. Our scheme proposes seven duplex dwellings above a plinth of studio workspace accommodation. Materials are traditional with details that are contemporary yet subtle. The aim is to create an unassuming yet enriching addition to the centre of Barnes.
