The proposed new dwelling accommodates a 2-bedroom single-family home, primarily over a single storey with one bedroom at the 1st-floor level and a ground floor bedroom and ensuite meeting Lifetime Home principles. Conceptually, the design appears as a pavilion adjacent to Fiddler Simpsons Cottage. The proposal comprises a single, first-floor bedroom to the rear rising to provide views across the landscape. This circular two storey room is inspired by the two windmills that once occupied this area.
With sustainable construction principles such as well-insulated walls, high levels of airtightness and heat recovery ventilation the design strives for net-zero carbon. The proposal actively aims to achieve net-zero carbon emissions in the construction of the building, the operation and whole-life carbon emissions.
A central covered atrium allows natural light to flood deep into the plan with rooms organised around the periphery of the house providing opportunities for informal landscaped courtyards/terraces at each corner. Each room has excellent levels of natural light and views out, maximising connection to the exterior.
