Fitzwilliam Hotel Penthouse, Belfast

The hotel is adjacent to the magnificent Opera House in the heart of Belfast, the sister hotel to the original Fitzwilliam in Dublin. Project Orange were appointed to work on the interior fit-out for the 9th floor penthouse suite. This new penthouse suite at the Fitzwilliam Belfast has been conceived with entertaining in mind, configuring a flowing sequence of spaces to capitalise on its peerless location with panoramic views over the city.

The suite presents a dining and entertaining area with grand piano and bar, framed on two sides with floor to ceiling glazing and wrap around roof terrace. A palette of moody, luxurious materials unites the rooms in a hybrid interior scheme that evokes Deco and mid-century motifs.

Smoked oak lines floors and feature walls and is accented with Nero Marquina marble and satin brass. These fine materials frame the discreet wet bar and column fireplace and are prevalent in details throughout, from door handles to table tops, bathrooms fittings to mid-century chandeliers. Furnishings are a combination of bespoke items designed by Project Orange and other pieces from premium contemporary furniture brands. The upholstery fabrics in a variety of verdant greens and soft pink. The use of pattern is limited to the walls of curtain where dramatic impact is provided in the geometric designs. This balances rich cream backgrounds with embroidered motifs in green and gold.

The smoked oak flooring flows through the suite with the dusky grey brown hues offset with deep pile rugs from. The tone of the oak is echoed in that of the deep smokey hues of the porcelain stone tiling that lines walls and floors in the bathroom. Contrasting brass details abound and large areas of mirror further augment the spatial drama of the room which, dramatically tall and long, channels the axial view to the free-standing bath and full height window beyond with its spectacular views over the city.
