Riverside Restaurant

Sector

Heritage, Food + Drink

This project involves the extension of a well established bar and restaurant overlooking a river. The existing building is an old bonded warehouse and the riverfront facade consists primarily of local traditional clay bricks that have blackened over time.

The design of the extension includes a three storey addition to the riverfront facade, which cantilevers over the boardwalk. This contemporary protuberance from the existing building highlights the contrast between old and new while still feeling sensitive to the local context. The design incorporates intricate joinery with timber columns and delicate metal balustrades, giving the facade an elegant rhythm.
