Regenerative Design

Our ethos is to consider the circular economy and the principles of regenerative design. For us this means balancing client’s immediate requirements with the possibility of future, more diverse, needs.

In 2024 we were placed in the top ten UK practices in the inaugural Regenerative Design Awards (set up by Architecture Today and Architecture Declares). The citation noted:

"Project Orange is thoroughly embedded in the rural area it serves; not just as architects and designers, but as custodians of the precious social and natural capital that give communities resilience and strength."

“To the economically engaged consumer and socially aware citizen the climate crisis can be a source of personal conflict. Every purchase made and choice taken requires the tempering of desire with conscience if a model of ethical and sustainable consumption is to evolve.’ Christopher Ash

We often frame our role on a project as gardeners, who are tending and nurturing. The practice address issues maintenance and repair in all our projects, whether retro-fit or new-build. Increasingly we find clients come to us as they are passionate about making a difference and pushing the envelope of sustainable and nature-based design. We continue to use our creativity to collaborate with co-professionals and patrons to build beautiful projects that are good for the earth.

Build less: Reuse existing buildings

Build smart: Use low carbon materials

Build efficiently: Use less resources and waste less

Build circular: Design for reuse and recycling

Build durable: Design for longevity
